Actuality from the project

Development of a web service enabling the storage of and access to atmospheric data measured at the Paranal Observatory site. This is linked to the storage of image quality measurements (exposure times, contrast profiles) from the SPHERE instrument’s observation database. These samples will serve as a training dataset for a model predicting image quality based on atmospheric data. Development of the AI-assisted PACO post-processing contrast prediction model based on atmospheric and weather conditions, as well as target characteristics, using the SPHERE archives (evaluation ongoing). Testing of several stochastic and robust optimisation models taking into account uncertainties in observation quality (one paper accepted for the IWPSS conference and a presentation at the Roadef conference). Contacts with ESO regarding meteorological and atmospheric aspects and a possible deployment.

Focus

Finalisation of the optimisation models. Finalisation of the prediction model. Integration of these models into a scheduling tool. Continued discussions with the ESO as part of SPHERE(+), and possibly ELT/MICADO.
